The village exemplifies the small agglomerate settlements that proliferated throughout the region in the 18th and 19th centuries to serve its dispersed agricultural population, but whose growth was arrested when by-passed by 19th century transportation innovations. Īsbury Historic District, situated in Franklin Township, Warren County, and Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon County, possesses significance in the areas of architecture, religion, industry, politics/government, and commerce.
